Kitty pinched the top of her nose and took a few deep breaths. The worst thing she could in this situation was for her to react angrily to what he had just said. "Who do you think you are talking to me like a piece of filth on your shoe Mr Welch?" she questioned calmly. "Whether you like it or not, the wheels are already in motion and we are already gaining support for it. Why don't you wait to see how this turns out before you decide to completely cut off your new Senator? The voters respect candidates who do something for them, not just for political parties. It hasn't been that long since I was just an ordinary voter so I think I have an idea of what they want."

"You're clearly still just an ordinary voter, Miss Stewart. And I hope you're happy with the distinction, as I strongly doubt you'll ever be anything else," Ronald said coldly, "What amazes me personally is your arrogance, but then I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Let me make one thing quite clear to you: you got lucky with your first campaign. It seems you've given me no choice but to wait see how this tuns out, and I'm happy to let you fall flat on your face before inauguration, but just know that I won't have you bringing the Republican Party in Massachusetts down with you."

"And you will be happy to take the credit when it all goes well Mr Welch," Kitty added clarifying what Mr Welch' had actually meant by what he had said. He was covering his back and making sure it didn't make him look bad. "Have you quite finished insulting me? Because I have an office to run and I am sure that you understand how much needs to be done before an inauguration of a new Senator."

"And I have to find a suitable Republican candidate for Mayor in the next election thanks to you, Miss Stewart," Ronald commented, "I also have several meetings and people - both in office and aspiring to be - to attend to, so if you'll excuse me then feel free to go back to thinking you're actually doing something."

"Of course Mr Welch. Good day," Kitty said before hanging up on him. He was the reason she hated dealing with the RNC. He was the person she had to go through to get anywhere and it really annoyed her that he treated her like she was an idiot. Just because it was the first time she was doing all of this and she honestly thought she was doing a good job.
She stood up from her desk, picking up Robin's pad and went to return it to its owner. She opened her office door and walked through it holding out the pad.

"Hey there, how'd it go? It's been pretty quiet out here and Jim hasn't come wandering yet," Robin said, speaking to Kitty while looking at her computer screen before glancing up, reading the pad and widening her eyes, "Jesus, what did I ever do to you?"

Kitty wasn't sure what Robin was talking about at first until she slowly realised. "Ahh, you mean the collection of scribbled swear words and insults?" she questioned before she explained. "Mr Welch was really annoying me so I thought that if I wrote them down on a piece of paper I wouldn't voice them to him and get all angry at him which wouldn't be good."

"That's alright then, I thought they were for me. Though I'm amazed you managed to pick up language like that in Beacon Hill, actually," Robin commented, placing the notepad down beside her, "So the Massachusetts RNC Chairman is a bit of a jerk? Where does he live? I can get my brothers to go beat him up if you want."

"Hmm that is a rather tempting offer but I am afraid I am going to have to say no. Oh if the whole of the Republican party in Massachusetts is brought down please remind that it was my fault," Kitty said almost absent mindedly about the whole situation. "The RNC chairman for the state is just a bit of a jerk and rather sexists and ageist really."

"Aw well, just give me a shout if you change your mind. I can always drop out of the Young Republicans in protest and get Shelly to do it too. After all, I work for one now," Robin said, laughing at Kitty's comment about bringing down the RNC, "What he needs to get is that the Republican party is changing. It used to be basically just a bunch of old white guys but now it's much more diverse and he needs to get used to it. So what's next, captain?"

It felt weird to be walking to work and not going by T. It felt even weirder to be walking across Boston Common knowing that she was going to be working at the State House, well more like on the State House. She smiled at Jim as they strolled across the common. A decision had been made for all of them to meet at the State House first and to come in a pair of old clothes that you didn't mind getting dirty.

"Kitty, I think I want to go back to Key West," Jim complained jokingly, shivering slightly and keeping his walking pace a little faster than usual, "Today makes a nice change from the usual, though. I'm thinking of starting up a petition to get David to let us dress casually every day of the week and move our offices to the State House. The extra time we get in the morning is the best of all."

"Yeah I am sure he will agree to that," Kitty said almost sarcastically and she hurried up her pace so that she was walking next to him. "At least we don't have to sit in meetings and have phone calls with nasty people from the RNC who want to shout at you a lot. We get to do some painting to and order other people to help run errands and such."

"Hey, don't get me started on that guy from the RNC. I hope he...well, I'm not so great at coming up with imaginative insults, but he shouldn't be allowed to talk to you like that. Nobody should. Some people think that just because they're in a position of some power they can treat everybody else however they want and it's really not fair," Jim stated, slowing down a little and wrapping an arm around his fiancée, "And you know what else isn't fair? We got interrupted like twice yesterday."

Kitty laughed. "Poor us, but we made up for it last night though didn't we?" she asked. "And we at least got to lie down and do it all properly without being rushed and hoping no one would disturb us because we were in the cupboard at work." She snuggled up to him as she walked along with him. "And it isn't like we never see each other outside of work. You are like my little shadow."
