Description
About
A baker by trade, Artur is Alix's dziadek - her maternal grandfather. Although he was due to retire three years ago, Artur has refused to close or sell his bakery, insisting that as long as people purchase his goods Zawadzkie PiekarniaZawadzki's Bakery shall open every day without fail. Both proud and fond of his granddaughter, Artur keeps has suggested many a time that she ought to stop flirting with journalism and return to Poland to join him in partnership. Although the subject was rarely broached between them, until she moved to London, Arthur wished Krystyna, his only daughter, to inherit the business.

Katarzyna, Alix's maternal grandmother, is a retired nurse from Józefosław in Poland. Although Alix and Artur are the closer of her mother's parents, she is still deeply fond of her babcia. Katarzyna enjoys spending time with her only granddaughter, spoiling her even into her twenties, and is keen for Mark and Alix to visit her again soon.
An aspiring Polish artist, Krystyna moved to Britain in her early twenties for what she perceived to be greater career prospects. Although she made a fair living with her art, Krystyna never quite achieved the career heights she had always aimed for. After less than a year of dating Mark Walker, the two married and shortly after Krystyna fell pregnant with Alix. Mere days after her daughter's thirteenth birthday Krystyna was stabbed to death when she refused to hand over her handbag in an attempted mugging. Fleeing from the scene of the crime, her attacker left behind her Krystyna and her untouched, blood-soaked handbag in an act which would see Mark turn his back on London for good.
A British-Polish Deveraux agent, Alix's talent lies in her ability to unite people - be they her friends, colleagues, or family. She could only be described as a social character, although she has slowly learnt to deal with being alone for large periods on missions. Following her mother's death, in the last few years Alix has begun to strongly embrace her Polish side in an effort to bring her closer to her mother's roots.
