Colin Johnson

Colin, the Master of Newbolt Wing, was a quiet man who kept himself to himself. He was killed by then-Senior Tutor Jessica Steel when she discovered that he had betrayed Deveraux's secret to James Mann of the Gargoyles in a personal vendetta against her.

Standing at only 5'7" tall, and with receding brown hair, Colin is pretty unremarkable-looking. Whilst most people within Deveraux keep themselves very fit, even when their job involves little to no action, Colin carries with him a very ungainly stomach - the product of one drink too many and one workout too few.

Colin is the kind of person you really want as a friend. His lack of friends growing up has caused him to become very attached to those he has now - not that he has many, since he tends to be quite wary of people and hold them at a safe, polite distance - and is very loyal to them. He is, deep down, a very sweet, giving man who enjoys surprising those he cares about with gifts. Colin also gives a lot of money from his large paycheck to charities, especially anti-bullying ones. He never shows this soft side at work, and has had to work harder to hide how hurt and offended he was when he was passed over for promotion.

The constant torment he received as a child has done much to shape Colin's personality. His giving of gifts to his friends is partially fuelled by a feeling he's never quite gotten rid of - that he's not worthy of friendship. He is very independent by necessity (he's never allowed anyone close enough to have a lasting romantic relationship), and has grown strong-willed, to the point of being defensive whenever questioned. He strongly dislikes others having power over him, which only fuels his strong dislike of Steel, who loves having power over others.

His early experiences also gave him a strong desire to see justice in the world, the reason he became so passionate about his work after he found out what it is Deveraux really does. This sense of justice was strongly rankled when he was passed over for a job he had earned, a job that was his right, by a washed-up field agent. Steel can't even deal with people well, a requirement for the job! This has caused a simmering resentment of Steel and the entire Deveraux hierarchy, though it is carefully hidden.

An only child, Colin grew up in a small but close family in Queens, New York. He always felt small and insignificant, something not helped by his height - or by the bullies regularly pointing this out to him. All through High School Colin only had one real friend, James Mann, whom he first met when James impeded two other guys from sticking Colin's head down the toilet. Though, as James dropped out of High school before Colin, even that friendship was short lived.

Colin's stable upbringing led him to seek instalment in an institution which would see him through much of his life, and so he began working within the newly opened New York division of Deveraux Tech; a ruthless but loyal electronics company. He joined as an administration assistant, but soon began to climb the ladders, jumping between several companies of the Deveraux Corp. portfolio. The speed at which he climbed these rungs didn't go unnoticed, and soon he was greeted by a notice from Jonathan Deveraux himself (though not in person, naturally): a high-up place waited for him within a top-secret Deveraux facility. If he was up to it, that was.

Colin was passed up for the post of Senior Tutor for the second time running when Jessica Steel, a relatively new face on the scene, was chosen for the job. Although Colin is the Master of Newbolt Wing, his power is limited to the everyday running of the wing. For matters of importance he must seek dialogue with the Senior Tutor, whom he reports directly to. This is something of a sore spot for him, with him being very bitter towards Steel, feeling that her post is rightfully his. Colin is only known by the staff and students of Newbolt Wing, rarely having cause to leave the wing while working.
