Jayanti Rai

A retired Field Agent formerly based in Region Rouge, Jayanti is a traditional Indian woman in both cultural and social contexts.

Raised from her earliest recollection in the Nizam Shahi Road Orphanage, in India, Jayanti knows not even her parents' names nor professions and has always considered Deveraux to be the closest thing she possesses to a family. It was this connexion to the Organisation which saw her transfer to the College she grew up in after finishing in the Field to teach young students her favourite subject, Spycraft — the very essence of espionage.

Jayanti's hair is dark and curly, although she has most recently experimented with putting it up in a bun, a look she feels perhaps reflects her growing age.

Jayanti finds herself to be very motherly at times (perhaps a legacy from her times as an orphan), though she can also be a hard taskmaster, pushing her students in order to get the best out of them if she feels it is the best course of action.

Jayanti spent the first fourteen years of her life in an orphanage in Hyderabad, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It's a period she recalls with mixed emotions, a time which shaped her as a person in both positive and negative ways. A naturally social character, it was only as she hit her late thirties that Jayanti stopped feeling torn apart by never having met her parents or knowing even the simplest of facts about them. Following on from this bleak upbringing, Jayanti often cites the offer of a scholarship from the Deveraux College as the best thing that happened to her in terms of her teen years.

Fast-forwarding to her days at the College, Jayanti - or Jaya, as she was commonly known back then - had an ordinary two years of training, though under her leadership not only did Bond Team take the Sherlock Shield, but also passed Stromfeld first time, an unusual occurrence at Deveraux.

At the age of 47, and with over 30 years' work as a Field Agent, Jayanti threw in the towel and returned to the Deveraux College to take up the role of Spycraft Instructor. Though she wouldn't even admit it to Frederik Johnasson, something of a close friend, she had been finding her field work increasingly straining her body physically; teaching Spycraft was something of a balance between leaving the Organisation and keeping her hand in the espionage game. This all said, she still misses the adrenaline of a mission, and can often be found in the hologym or VR Chamber practising her skills after-hours, despite the knowledge that she'll not need them past the point of demonstration.
